I am committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of visitors to my web site. I do not sell, rent or trade email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes.

What I do with the information I gather

My website requires this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • Internal record keeping.
  • To improve products and services.
  • Periodically send promotional emails about new books, special offers or other information you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided.
  • From time to time, contact you for market research purposes. I may use the information to customize the website according to your interests.

Security

I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, the website has suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected online.

How the website uses cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

The website uses traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps analyse data about web page traffic and improve the website in order to tailor it to customer needs. This information is used purely for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Overall, cookies help provide you with a better website, by enabling monitoring which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer.

Google Analytics

When someone visits my website I use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behavior patterns. This is to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site the website collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on the site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, it will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, the website will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so the website can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on the website (if any), it also stores the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

This widget may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the widget, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the widget, if you are logged in to Facebook. For more information about how this data may be used, please see Facebook’s data privacy policy here.

The website uses a Twitter Tweet widget. As a result, the website makes requests to Twitter’s servers for you to be able to tweet webpages using your Twitter account. These requests make your IP address visible to Twitter, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy, which you can read here.

The website uses a GooglePlus widget. As a result, the website makes requests to Google’s servers for you to be able to share webpages using your GooglePlus account. These requests make your IP address visible to Google, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy, which you can read here.

The website uses a Linkedin Share widget to allow you to share webpages on Linkedin. These requests may track your IP address in accordance with their data privacy policy, which you can read here.
